We need to underline the effort, which is almost always obscure and dry, of a faith in search for God, without forgetting to mention the more or less permanent action of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. In fact, only faith demands of us this active effort, whereas we need only receive the action of the Holy Spirit who comes to achieve our effort, however miserable it may be in its results.
