It has been a long time already; my heart is full of sadness, but I do not know whether this sadness shows itself on my face. And this leads me to think that even the good God cannot penetrate into this sadness of my heart. So! please pray for me that I can change this sadness into joy and offer this joy to my beloved little Jesus.

It boggles the mind that He can let folks who so desire His presence to be so sad, so bereft, but no doubt Dysmas felt a tremendous sadness — and Jesus, too, so that either way, either way — we can all be in good company, perhaps.

These words just make me want to give him a hug – perhaps compassion is one of the gifts that is left after sadness.
