    And that rest is different…reminds me of Catherine of Genoa’s conversations about the faculties where the point was that nothing will satisfy a fundamental desire for the infinite except for God.

      This makes me think of something else, too. Catherine of Genoa was also fond of pointing out that the end result of uniting us to God is that there is nothing “passable” left, i.e., nothing that is moved in us by the passions without reference to God. What a completely different kind of rest we are opened up to, indeed.
