If pure contemplatives were ordered into the arena of action – however intense, useful, effective, and generous that action might be – the certainty of God’s abiding Presence would vanish without trace, submerged in the world’s noise, and men, face to face with themselves, would lose even the memory of the Eucharistic experience of God.
