A Remark about East and West

Le GuillouThe teachers of the East, the spiritual writers of the East are the doctors of Transfiguration; Saint Augustine is the doctor of confrontation, of the face-to-face with God. As it goes on, this marks the Western tradition.

What an awesome thing! To meet God face to face! A lot of people tell me they want to do this, but I remember that even Moses didn’t get to see God’s face…and I am a much less worthy person than Moses!

Moses did speak to God “face to face”: “Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” (Exodus 33:11). And: “Not so with my servant Moses… With him I speak face to face – clearly, not in riddles; and he beholds the form of the Lord.” (Number 12:7–8).

I’m certainly not worthy either. On the other hand, God doesn’t give according to our worth, but only according to what he sees, in his compassion and mercy and love, is fitting to help us come to him! =)
