Heaven Comes Down to the Earth Every Minute of Every Day

After preparing a year’s worth of posts, it has struck me, forcefully and simply, that the only message that I have at all is that heaven comes down to earth every minute of every day.

Every post that I’ve made is about this: the Eucharist, the angels, the Church of Heaven… all that is obvious. But also, since “heaven is God and God is in my soul”, as Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity said, heaven descends also in the graces of contemplation and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, in seeing Jesus in and behind our neighbour, in tasting eternity by tasting the divine peace of contemplation, and when we are transformed and transfigured in our body.

This message is inexhaustible: heaven comes down to earth every minute of every day. The entire life of heaven is breaking into this present world, and that is enough to make us holy, if we would but become like little children and run to our Father – and the rest of his family.

When I started this blog, I had no idea that so many themes could be summarized in so few words. I thought things were more complicated than they are. I was very wrong. I’ve only ever said that heaven comes down to earth every minute of every day. That is exactly where God has brought me and simplified me and simplified the things I have to say.

I feel both like I am nothing and like I have been given a great, simple grace that I don’t deserve. Today I feel like I’ll have nothing else to ever say. Anything else is just an explanation of this gift: heaven comes down to earth every minute of every day.
