According to Saint John, love of God and love of our neighbour belong to one and the same commandment: “And this command we have from God, that he who loves God, loves also his brother” (1 Jn 4:21). As the one love increases, so does the other… It was because the saints loved God so much that they succeeded in doing so much for their neighbour.
