Architect

Reading once again the Summa
Not the theol., but CG.*
First ref. is the book of Proverbs;
Next is to philosophy.

“Philosopher”, that might be better:
Aristotle, that is he
Thomas first quotes (Metaphys.),
Saying what a sage must be.

“Wise men all must put in order”;
That is what the word does mean.
Ends and causes all must be placed
Properly, as it beseems.

Architects in Latin were named
For doing a Master Art:
That means guiding other artists,
Order thus they do impart.

Wisdom comes in other forms, too:
Contemplate, theologize.
Best of all is God’s own knowledge
Giv’n through love to make us wise.

This same wisdom is the science
Of the saints. How they did love
By God’s own Love, freely given,
Stamped their hearts his from above.

Thus I hope that on this blog I’ve
Put some order, made some good,
Like an architect or wise man
Always, always, always should.

–

* That is, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Summa contra Gentiles.
