Who Speaks and is Not Heard?

Who speaks and is not heard?
To the ends of the earth this voice rings out:
The Lord, the Lord, but not the Word.
He speaks too in, behind his world:
The earth, a whale that breaches,
The fungus whose farthest reaches
We know not but are offing one by one—
The deer with no home, the lark that sings out,
Commanding us to stop and be now,
Not in future, except to care for what will come;
For brothers whose home is scorched by sun,
For sisters who flee as the sea consumes their homes;
And the very Lord who hears their cry
Is the Lord who himself is not heard.
O that today his voice we would hear.
