All beings tend to become like God, each according to the possibilities of its own nature. In other words, all beings, starting with the lowliest and most elementary, viz. inanimate beings, each in its own way tends toward God. Thus a powerful aspiration toward the supreme source of being lifts up created being… But this love and this desire take a new form in the spiritual creature endowed with  intellect and will. Here the tendency toward assimilation with the Source takes that higher form, which is by way of knowledge and love (as an act elicited by the will)… Mysticism for Christians is a mysticism of love.
