In spite of this trial which takes from me every feeling of enjoyment, I can still cry out: “You, O Lord, have made me glad by your work” [cf. Ps 92:4]. For what joy can be greater than that of suffering for Your love? The more intense the suffering is and the less it appears to men, the more it causes You to smile, O my God.
