They Are Your Glory

In the Mass readings for the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart in the Latin Rite today, we read from Ephesians 3:8–12 and 14–19.

I actually really like verse 13 (the one that is skipped): “I pray therefore that you may not lose heart over my sufferings for you; they are your glory.”

This is an amazing statement of the value of suffering and of the presence of the Communion of Saints. What we suffer in love of another becomes (part of) the other’s glory.

I understand that it makes sense to remove this verse from the flow of today’s Mass reading. But it’s also worth it to go back and reflect on this verse in our own time.
