We cannot love without putting ourselves in the perspective of suffering; we cannot love without putting ourselves in the perspective of suffering of those we love, and of that which our own suffering causes them. But isn’t it better than closing our heart in on itself? This is the greatness that must be sought in all things. It brings with it light, this opening through which God enters more and more.

    I am reminded of these two quotes: ‘‘If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23 and “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour…” Luke 1:46,47
