Day of Christ’s Joy and Gladness of Heart

Since what is desired brings joy when it is attained, there is no reason for wondering that the day of your passion is called “day of your joy,” for you desired it… Even though the torments they were meting out to you caused you very real sadness and sorrow, your love was rejoicing at the good that was coming to us from it. So it is called “the day of your gladness of heart.”
Saint John of Ávila
