I rejoice a lot in this state of spiritual dryness, because, by it, I avoid inconveniencing the good God. In effect, if I lived always in a state of sensible fervour, I would have so many things to say to him, so much that he’d have no time to rest, not even a moment to decorate my soul with a still greater beauty. It seems, then, that my state of dryness is a sign that the good God is really “impassioned” with the beauty of his little friend.
