The Body of Christ

Tenderly, the finger lingers
Spreads a salve upon the knee
But it knows not what it sees

The knee is yearning; burning
From its new health, it does know
That another part does glow

Though the brothers know another,
Know each purpose they do not:
Each one’s white stone, secret lot

Head directs all and gives each call
Members must renounce the space
Rightly giv’n as others’ place

Mystery, the eye, heart, all parts
Work together but don’t know
Just how all is set aglow
