I know clearly that the trials God gives to contemplatives are intolerable. These trials are of such a kind that if He didn’t give that food with its delights, these persons wouldn’t be able to endure the trials… His Majesty needs to give them sustenance, and not water, but wine, so that in their inebriation they will not understand what they are suffering and will be able to endure it.
