The Garland of Virtues

Saint Edith

Love must be strong to keep the garland of virtues together.
Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross

This quote is exactly, but in a more experiential rather than scholastic terminology, the teaching (of, for example, Saint Thomas) that “charity is the form of the other virtues”. The strength of charity determines both the reality (scholastic word) and the integration (experiential word) of each of and all the other virtues. That’s why, the union with God in this life, being by divine love, action and contemplation, virtues and prayer, are somehow and progressively linked.
