Never can events shake the heart of those who place their confidence in God.
Are these words of Little Văn going too far? No events can shake the heart of those whose confidence has been placed in God: none? Not even temptation, death, torture, failure?
None. How is this possible? Progress in the spiritual life is a journey towards the simplicity of a child of God, who is Providence and who takes care of all events to meet our own abilities and to not exceed them, except to teach us further about our weaknesses and to throw our greater confidence in him; this God whom we meet in the most intimate part of our heart, pouring down grace like rain and flooding all our faculties, will transform everything about us, until it becomes second nature to live in the moment created by him, all things resplendent in incommunicable glory; though suffering should knock at our door, weakness, difficulty, failure, we will know, when we arrive at the innermost centre of our life and at the place where God is, that we will never be separated from our Love. If we have journeyed far enough to have such confidence like little children in their parents, totally abandoned to God, whose will would then delight to do our upright will, then what could possibly shake us?
Indeed: “I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom 8:38–39).
