The Minimum Mortification

“I chastise my body and bring it into subjection” (1 Cor 9:27). If the body is not mortified, it is very difficult to make it obedient to the law of God… At least bear patiently with the discomforts and fatigue resulting from your bodily condition; try not to complain of the inclemency of the weather and the excessive heat and cold. If you are unable to practise works of penance, at least abstain occasionally from some lawful pleasure.

    I asked God to use Lent to show me my weaknesses. This is one, for sure. I am not as patient as I could be. I find not being able to do things (especially for other people) extremely frustrating. Plus, when I’m worn out physically, I do sometimes get grumpy…
