Parish, Neighbours, and Eucharist

At St Michael Church in Bangkok, Thailand: altar detail

A church, a parish… is an ekklèsia [from qahal, קהל in Hebrew], a gathering of the people of God by the Eucharist, from which follows and unravels all the tasks and missions to which priests and laypeople are associated in parish life… Whoever says ‘Eucharist’ says ‘fraternal love’ between those called to this place, even if they have not chosen each other and especially because they have not chosen each other.
Jean-Marie Cardinal Lustiger (1926–2007)
