Aside from the mixed metaphor, yes, I think you could. Even though he was nervous, and perhaps partly because he joyfully admitted to it in the homily, you could “smell” the holiness, you could “smell” the transfiguration of the body, the expressions, the physical features and their human use, by the Holy Spirit.
What a wonder is this hidden, secret reality of the love of God that, in a myriad of unpredictable ways, makes itself “seen” or “smelled”!
