“Tình yêu không thể chết” (Love Can Never Die) is a Vietnamese song about Marcel Văn CSsR (1928–1959). I showed the video to one of my Vietnamese friends, and she volunteered this summary of the lyrics:
With a humble attitude,
With his chaste and great love,
A small child with a simple, but great, heart…
He was such a little flower, but with great scent spreading faraway.
He was a pauper child who was sold as a slave, was insultingly slandered, and was whacked in the prison, but he raised his voice not at all.
He was a great brother (anh in Vietnamese), a small younger brother [em in Vietnamese, in Thai we say น้อง].
He himself is a bright sign for young people, and he is a gift for all Vietnamese Christians.
The love he gives God can never die.
