We must have confidence in the divine promises. Aridity in prayer is not the result of tepidity when, instead of love of the world, interest in our spiritual advancement predominates. We must trust in the Holy Spirit who dwells in us and who increases His work in us in proportion to our growing fidelity to the first commandment: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Dt 6:5; Mt 22:37; Mk 12:30; Lk 10:27) in order to become “adorers in spirit and in truth” (Jn 4:24).
