On the Bus

For me, there is something special about taking a bus, especially in the early morning. There one meets people. Even without words, one does a better job at meeting people. Even keeping one’s eyes down and mostly seeing with the eyes of the heart, one meets people.

No one expects you to be anything special on the bus. But you can meet people, more as they are. And if we know how people are, we know better what to bring before God, especially at the sacrifice of the Mass.

It’s also great for contemplation and living with the Church of Heaven. The angels look after travellers (everyone on the bus is a traveller of sorts), and guardian angels go with those they guard. The Church of Heaven is there, too.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that a bus is a special place. It’s not. It’s simply a place where I know better how to behave to welcome and live with the Church of Heaven and to see my neighbours in Christ.
