The Fathers of the desert have a very acute sense of the link between the body and prayer. For them, every prayer, even the most interior and the most secret, is reflected on the body. Whether it is at the beginning or at the end of a prayer or as an overflow of the spirit onto the flesh, the interior life never dispenses with the corporeal.
