Love of neighbour is the same love as love for God. Consequently, love for others unites us to God and makes us more like God. When we try to love others as Jesus loved them, looking at them with Jesus’ eyes, that love becomes, better than any other way, a path for uniting ourselves with God. It is both obscure and experiential, in all the fullness, without limit, of that love. It supposes an evangelical approach to others, an attitude of gratuitousness that expects nothing in return.
