And Never Can Christians Rest Within Time

Jacques MaritainAnd never can Christians rest within time. As long as the world exists, the Christian must always search for new progress and new improvement, for more justice and brotherhood on earth, and for a deeper and more complete realization of the Gospel here below. For him there can never be enough. It is always imperative to do more.
Jacques Maritain (1882–1973)

I asked the Poor Clare Nuns this morning at Mass, what do you think is the GOSPEL. How would you define what the word GOSPEL means for you. To live the Gospel, to proclaime the Gospel. The church is called to witness to the Gospel. But just what is the Gospel?. Can we confuse the church for the Gospel? And instead of proclaiming the Gospel, proclaim the church? To much church and not enough Gospel?

I don’t think I understand… Jesus himself is the Gospel. And Jesus is also the Head and Life-giving Principle of the Church and of all grace that – visibly or invisibly, clearly or unclearly, open to see now or only open to see in Heaven – is gathered into the Church, his Body, his Bride, his Family.

I can imagine many problems in the focus and emphasis of Christians, but I don’t think I would ask the question or make the analysis in this way… =)
