Bread and Water

René Voillaume:

Meditative reading of the Bible, in particular the books of the New Testament, is your daily bread for the nourishment of your faith. Like all food, it must be given regularly and be digested. You will look for two things in this reading: familiar knowledge of the real face of God and of the Lord Jesus, and the teaching of rules that you must put in practice to be gathered to Jesus.

Charles de Foucauld:

Find some way to read a few verses of the Gospel every day, in such a way that over a certain period of time you will have read the whole Gospel. After the reading, meditate for a few minutes, either mentally or in writing, on the teachings contained in the reading. You must seek to be thoroughly filled with the Spirit of Jesus in reading and re-reading, meditating on his words and examples over and over again without ceasing. May it be to our souls like the steady dripping of water on a stone.
