Two Ways to Act on the World

René VoillaumeThere are two ways to act on the world. The first is immediate in time and place, and it belongs to us well and properly: the fruit of our intelligence, our invention, our will, and the work of our hands… The other way to act on the world can only be found after being lost in the renouncement of any immediate action. Thus such an action is without limits in time and space, in depth and extent… A desire so absolute for unlimited action in time and space is the sign of a contemplative vocation, and it cannot be satisfied except by the cooperation and action of God himself.
René Voillaume (1905–2003)
