The Spirit Was Not Made for Noise

The sweetness of solitude – I have known it most of my life. Even before I became a Christian, I loved solitude with nature and books, where the world is invisible and sweet. In solitude one is never alone. The spirit was not made for noise, but for taking things in. Life is a preparation for heaven, not only through deserving work, but by peace and communion with God.
Blessed Charles de Foucauld (1858–1916)
